CASE AF4000 Harvester Engine Air Filter Routine Maintenance Precautions

Harvester operating environment is harsh, if not timely maintenance of the engine air intake filter, a large amount of dust and crop residues are prone to cause engine air intake filter blockage.

This post will explain how to properly clean your engine air filter.

▶▶▶ Harvester Air Filter Blockage Indicator.

When the air intake to the filter element is restricted, the indicator light will turn red, signaling the driver that the air filter element needs to be serviced.

NOTE: After servicing the air filter element, you will need to push the top end to reset the restricted air indicator.

Primary filters are high-capacity cartridges designed to provide optimum protection to the engine. The primary filter can be cleaned as needed before replacing it. If the primary filter is damaged, the safety (inboard) filter provides additional protection for the engine. The safety filter should not be cleaned or flushed and should be replaced if it is damaged or dirty.

The safety filter collects very small particles of dust that are invisible to the naked eye. The safety filter may look clean, but may actually be dirty, so change it regularly.

To prevent dust from entering the engine, be sure to periodically inspect the moving rubber connections from the air filter to the intake manifold.

  • Hoses and movable fittings must be replaced before aging.
  • To avoid any undue stress on these fittings, make sure the pipes are straight.
  • Ensure that the connection between the air filter and the air intake is tight, that all gaskets are intact and that all clamps are tightened.

▶▶▶ Air Filter Removal and Maintenance

1. Loosen the three clips on the air filter hood cover, then remove the air filter hood cover from the air filter housing. Remove the primary filter from the housing while avoiding dust on the safety filter.

2. Clean the primary filter

  • Clean the inside of the primary filter housing with a clean rag.
  • Then clean the primary filter with compressed air. Keep the air nozzle approximately 127 mm from the filter and move the nozzle up and down as you turn the filter.

    NOTE:
  • Nozzle pressure must not exceed 241kPa (35psi).
  • Do not use compressed air to clean the filter if oil or putty is mixed in the dirt; replace the primary filter if necessary.

To check the primary filter for damage or holes, place a light inside the filter and rotate the light.

  • Check the appearance of the rubber gasket for signs of damage.
  • Inspect the metal cover and filter material for damage.
  • Replace damaged filter.

3. Safety filter replacement
Replace the safety filter as needed for field work or annually by removing the safety filter from the air filter housing and discarding it.

4. Install the air filter cover onto the air filter housing, then secure the three retaining clips to the housing.

Regular care and maintenance of your vehicle’s engine air filter is key to ensuring your vehicle runs properly. By following the maintenance points above, you can effectively protect your engine air intake system and ensure that your vehicle is always in good working order.
